It started with a single photo. As a sleep-deprived new dad adjusting to life with daughter, Alice Bee, Dave Engledow captured the story of moms and dads everywhere when he snapped a funny photo of himself while he squirted Alice Bee's bottle of milk into his World's Best Father coffee mug and held her tightly under his arm. What began as a joke among family and friends has since blossomed into a viral hit, with Engledow documenting life with Alice on his Facebook page. And, thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, he was able to raise money to turn the photos into a calendar. The goal of the project has always been to create something that, although funny, is also relatable and offers lessons to both parents and non-parents. "The character I portray in this series is intended to be a parody of the father I hope I never become -- distracted, self-absorbed, neglectful, clueless, or even occasionally overbearing," he describes.
But, really, this tongue-in-cheek series has always been about Alice, who was never put in harm's way during photoshoots. "This has been a project that’s for Alice," says Engledow. "I want to be able to have something that I can give to her that she’ll look back on and treasure.”How sweet is that? Can you imagine looking at these photos 20 years from now? xoxo
